Forestry teaches students the basic skills and training to produce, protect, and manage timber; in the proper use of equipment and machinery; to harvest and transplant trees as a crop; to select, trade, and market forest raw materials for converting into a variety of consumer goods; and to utilize the forest for multiple purposes such as game preserves and recreation.  During the first year, students will develop skills in tree identification, tree study, insects and diseases, timber stand improvement, marking timber, marketing, timber harvesting, wildlife management, forest reproduction, fire fighting, and prescribed burning.  Second-year students will develop skills in tree identification, forestland location, forest surveying, mapping, tree measurement, plot cruising, and log scaling.  This course will include classroom and laboratory instruction.
